Symposiums

The Community Transport Symposiums are held every three years. These events bring together those who are involved in community transport throughout New Zealand, to provide a voice and articulate a vision for the sector's future.

2025 Community Transport Symposium

The 2025 Symposium took place on 12 March 2025. The theme was "Organisational Sustainability: Securing our Future".

Speakers addressed the evolution of community transport in Aotearoa, sharedinsights into the current state of the community sector in New Zealand, and highlighted the importance of risk management in community transport.

2022 Community Transport Symposium

The 2022 Community Transport Symposium took place on Tuesday 27 September 2022, at Claudelands Event Centre, Hamilton.

Dr Bridget Doran delivered the keynote speach on “Speaking Up: International insights on giving voice and governance to the Community Transport sector in Aotearoa”

Those that attended heard speakers from the sector, shared stories amongst each other with an aim to leave them feeling inspired and motivated, and participated in workshops that gave them the opportunity to shape the work to come. We hoped attendees would leave having reinforced great connections and saw them influence projects like the Waikato Regional Council's Community Transport Fund framework.

2019 Community Transport Symposium

The Waikato Community Transport Forum hosted a half-day symposium on 12 November 2019, with local, national, and international guests.

We met to share our stories about Community Transport. We wanted to know whether there is appetite for more united 'voice' for community transport in Aotearoa.

Who attended
Over 100 people attended, including representatives from 30 different community providers across the Waikato region.  They heard from fellow local providers, St John NZ, Waikato DHB, regional councils who support community transport with resource – Horizons and Canterbury, the Chief Executive of UK Community Transport Association and the Honorable Associate Minister for both Transport and Health Julie Anne Genter.
