The National Travel Assistance Scheme: Policy Recommendations Report - September 2018
This 2018 report undertaken by the Ministry of Health outlines the findings of an internal review of the National Travel Assistance (NTA) Scheme and makes recommendations for how to improve it. The review has highlighted significant room for improvement within the NTA Scheme as it currently operates. It also indicates that this improvement work is required to prepare the Scheme for the possibility of more significant change.

A Policy and Funding Framework for Community Transport
The research for this paper was carried out by Taith Consulting Ltd on behalf of Greater Wellington Regional Council (GWRC), who funded a community transport study in early 2023. The work included discussions with community transport operators in New Zealand, review of research papers in the UK and Australia, and information provided by councils.
The paper uses case studies to advocate for a national and regional policy and funding framework to support the growth of community transport. Greater support from the Ministry of Transport, Waka Kotahi, and regional/local councils could expand these services, improving lives and offering economic benefits by addressing poor health and social isolation.
The characteristics of subsidised mobility services
Waka Kotahi NZTA commissioned researchers to assess publicly funded accessible transport options in preparation for the forthcoming review of the Total Mobility scheme. Their study examined subsidised mobility schemes abroad to glean insights applicable to the New Zealand context. The research emphasises the importance of investing in community transport, paratransit, and regular public transport options to positively impact the lives of disabled people in New Zealand.

They had a discussion about what their services currently look like and focused on where there are strengths that should be carried over and gaps that need to be addressed by the new health system in order to maximise the wellbeing of the communities they live in and serve.
